How it works

Looking up a home

  1. Type the address of the home you’re interested in: street and door number.
  2. Read what other visitors found: their answers, photos, and the good points and problems they saw.
  3. Check “Around this address” for transport, schools, shops, noise, short-term rentals and the median rent in the parish.
  4. Look at each review’s badges. Detailed means it answers many questions with photos. Verified visit means the photos were taken at the address on the visit date.

You don’t need an account to read anything.

Writing a review

Visited a flat? Help the next person. It takes 5–10 minutes on your phone.

To write a review, you sign in with your email: we send you a code, no password. The account is free and your email is never shown.

  1. Tell us when and where. Date, address, floor and side. The listing link is optional.
  2. Answer what you saw. Tap Yes, No or Didn’t check. “Didn’t check” is always fine; we’d rather have an honest gap than a guess.
  3. Add photos. Up to 10, taken during your visit. Upload them straight from your phone’s camera or gallery, not via WhatsApp, which removes the date and location we use to verify them.
  4. Describe good points and problems. Write what you observed, not what you felt. “Water stain on the bedroom ceiling” helps; “horrible flat” doesn’t.
  5. We check it. Our system cleans the text and checks the photos, then a person approves it. You’ll get an email when it’s live, usually within 2 days.

What we remove

Opinions without facts, names of people, accusations against owners, agents or neighbours, health claims, and any personal information. Our system suggests the changes and you approve them before submitting.

If you think a review is wrong

Use “Report or reply to this review”. Tell us what is wrong and why. We review it, contact the reviewer, and send you our decision with the reasons. Owners and agencies can also publish a factual reply shown beside the review.

Our independence

We accept no advertising and no payments from owners, landlords or estate agents. SherlockHomes runs on donations from the people who use it.
